QA Engineer - Social Games

Innovative, well-funded start-up has an opportunity for a talented QA Engineer to develop cutting-edge Social Network Games. The successful candidate will:

• Be an integrated member of the team, working to ensure that “Quality” is injected into each step of the development process and the user experience.
• Create, implement and maintain test plans throughout the product life cycle and identify areas for automation.
• Ensure that the product team is aware of defects that need to be addressed and maintain an in-depth understanding of the issues in the bug database.
• Make suggestions and develop metrics for balance and game play improvement.

Requirements:

• 2+ years working as a QA Engineer in a web application environment, preferably on a high-traffic consumer internet site. Bonus points for the Social Networking/Social Gaming space.
• A clear understanding of quality assurance processes and techniques, including experience with open source test automation tools (such as selenium, watir, sikuli)
• Some proficiency in programming in a modern programming/scripting language (java, python, ruby, etc)
• Understanding on how web applications work. You’re expected to understand the following technology and can explain what they mean: CSS, HTML, DOM, AJAX, Javascript
• Comfortable with SQL queries and can debug issues by getting down and dirty with the database. You have deep analytic capabilities and love to sift through data looking for trends.
• Comfortable with *nix environment: Bash, SSH, SCP, CURL, WGET
• You've got a keen sense of appropriate quality levels to meet business objectives, and understand that not all games are created equally.
• You function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change and self-learning is the norm. Agility is key. We move fast and want QA Engineers who can enable us to move even faster.
• You're always looking to find better ways to get things done.
• BS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.
• Sense of humor and a positive attitude are non-negotiable.
• We’re using the following environments and tools, so your knowledge of some of the following is a bonus and will help you contribute quickly: Firebug, Charles, Java, Linux, MySQL, Eclipse, Ant, Hudson, Tomcat, Amazon EC2 Web Services, JIRA and Agile Development/Testing methodologies and best practices

This position is contract-to-hire position.  Competitive salary and the occasional catered food. Located in the SOMA / South Beach section of San Francisco, we're within walking distance of MUNI, CalTrain and BART.
